New Owners, an Old Website

This beloved riding school had been a fixture of Long Island’s riding community for years when it changed hands. Its new owners moved to a new location and reshaped some of its services, but the website still listed the previous services, and none of its copy had been written with search in mind.

The owners didn’t need an audit to tell them the site was a problem. Current riders and prospective clients had told them directly that it was confusing to use. They brought Hypha in for a redesign, a move off WordPress onto HubSpot, and a full rebuild of the site copy, all on a two-month timeline.

Getting the Message and the Vocabulary Right

Before any pages were written, the team ran a light branding exercise with the owners to agree on the core message. Settling that early gave the copy and design work a shared reference point for the rest of the sprint.

Riding instruction has its own vocabulary, and a site that gets the terms wrong loses credibility with the riders it’s trying to reach. The content team researched the correct terminology and worked through it in hands-on discussions with the owners, checking the copy against how the school itself talks about its programs.

We simultaneously conducted keyword and competitor analyses to ensure the site would be optimized to succeed after launch. The competitor review showed which terms other schools in the area relied on, but the keyword map was built around what local riders actually search for. Demand pointed toward “near me” queries and a cluster of camp-related terms, and local keywords were placed throughout the site.

Insight: In a niche field, the audience often knows the vocabulary better than the marketers writing for it. Time spent confirming terms with the client is SEO work in its own right.

The team also mapped user journeys for two kinds of visitors.

  • A new rider arrives with questions about what the school offers and where to begin.
  • An established rider has already answered those and wants to get straight to what they came for, so the navigation had to give each a clear path.

A Classic Look on a New Platform

The design brief asked the Senior Web Designer to carry the school’s existing logo and branding into a modern site, fresh but still recognizably equestrian. A digital style guide came out of that work and gives the owners a reference for future pages.

Imagery came from the school’s own photos wherever possible. Real photography keeps the site genuine: prospective riders see the place and the horses they’ll meet in person.

Behind the redesign, the site moved from WordPress to HubSpot’s Starter Suite, and the school migrated off Constant Contact as part of the same project.

What Changed After Launch

The site went live in October, and the owners report that feedback from users has been positive since. People find it easier to navigate and the services are clearer, and visitors understand how to book lessons. The site also describes the school as it runs today, under its current owners and at its current location.

What Comes Next

The school is now in a short maintenance phase while Hypha watches how the site performs in search results and AI-generated answers. In the new year, the work moves into a local SEO project. The site copy was written with local search in mind from the start, and the next phase expands on it through blogging, directory listings and local press.

The content plan is aimed at riders in the Long Island and Manhattan area whom the school can serve right away. The goal is thoughtful content for the people the school can actually reach.

Has Your Business Outgrown Your Website?

Most websites are built for the business as it stood on launch day, and every change since, from a new owner to a new service line, widens the gap. If yours no longer matches how you operate, talk with our team about a redesign or platform move that closes it.
