The Hypha Wire

Welcome y’all!

Feeling energized as I type my column here, and the reason is a little silly.

I was feeling stuck, not knowing what to write about, so I glanced around my office bedroom for some inspiration. My eyes took me to the corner of my room, where I keep my books, records, and, of course, my craft supplies.

Though my title includes ‘Marketing,’ a huge part of my skill set (and the role I started here at Hypha) is graphic design and web design—the adult manifestations of my art degree.

Because I don’t work on any physical art during the day, I take that saved-up energy and put it into my crafts! And my favorite for the last few years has been card-making.

I’m not afraid to say it: I make a mean card. I have books upon books of paper, stamps for every occasion, fun markers, and even a tool to make custom-sized envelopes.

(Sage, where are you going with this?)

Cards are a great way for me to personalize an experience—whether it be a thank you, happy birthday, or thinking of you.

(Here’s where I tie it all together.)

We live in an extremely cold and impersonal world. Inboxes are flooded with spam emails, LinkedIn DMs clog up your app, phones ring non-stop—yesterday I listened as my coworker frustratingly (and hilariously) got repeatedly hung up on as he tried to get off of a robocall list...

Even in an environment of 24/7 pings, it’s easy to feel alone and isolated.

So now and again, take a moment. Connect with the people you know, be it coworkers, colleagues, partners, etc. See how they’re doing, and nurture those connections. Keep things personal.

Creating Compelling Content That Drives Engagement (With Mary Poppins)

By Rebecca Albright, Senior Inbound Content Developer, Hypha HubSpot Development

Creating compelling content that drives engagement is both an art and a science. To truly capture an audience’s attention, content must strike a balance between entertainment, education, and emotional connection.

Case in point? Mary Poppins. While not a content creator in the traditional sense, Mary had a lock on delivering important messages with charm, creativity, and just the right amount of ex-pi-a-li-docious—exactly what successful content creators should aim to do.

Here are a few examples to illustrate the point.

The “Spoonful of Sugar” Approach: Make It Tasty

Just like a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down, great content makes even boring topics engaging. The trick? Present information in a way that’s not just informative, but fun. Writing about something technical? Add personality, storytelling, or humor. When readers don’t feel like they’re “working” to get it, they’ll stick around—after all, you’re still reading this, right?

When Mary arrives at the Banks household, she immediately sets up a structured routine for the children. She organizes their days with a perfect balance of learning and play, ensuring they accomplish tasks while still enjoying themselves.

Content creators should do the same. The foundation of your content—whether it’s a video script or a long-form article—should be well-organized and coherent. Start with clear objectives and logical flow, but don’t be afraid to weave in a little Jolly Holiday.

For video scripts, this could mean using dynamic visuals or conversational dialogue. For blog posts, use storytelling techniques that build suspense or emotional connection.

Prioritize Empathy & Understanding

Mary understood the importance of relationships, particularly in her role in helping the Banks family reconnect. Similarly, compelling content should build a relationship with the audience. This is achieved by understanding their needs, challenges, and emotions. Whether writing a blog post or script, ask yourself, “How will this resonate with my audience? What value am I providing them?” By prioritizing empathy in your content, you foster trust and loyalty, driving deeper engagement.

Call to Action: Encourage Interaction

Like Mary guiding the Banks children to take action—whether cleaning their room or embarking on an adventure—content should inspire the audience to act. Whether requesting a demo, scheduling a meeting, or jumping into a chalk drawing, every piece of content should include a clear, compelling call to action.

So, next time you’re creating content, channel your inner Poppins: sprinkle in some fun, balance it with structure, and always lead your audience toward action. After all, a little magic—and a well-crafted argument—can go a long way.

The Verge: OpenAI releases o1, its first model with ‘reasoning’ abilities ↠

OpenAI’s long awaited “Strawberry” model has arrived. It’s trained differently, can solve more complex problems, and is more human than other models. Don’t get too scared though—it still hallucinates.

“But this model isn’t thinking, and it’s certainly not human. So, why design it to seem like it is?

“OpenAI doesn’t believe in equating AI model thinking with human thinking, according to [OpenAI’s research lead, Jerry] Tworek. But the interface is meant to show how the model spends more time processing and diving deeper into solving problems, he says. ‘There are ways in which it feels more human than prior models.’”
